The Kuwaiti Red Crescent hands over ambulances to Lebanon

Today, Friday, the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society handed over to the Lebanese Red Cross 10 fully equipped ambulances, four cars designated for blood transfusion centers and a car for collecting a blood bank provided by the Kuwait Fund for Development.

The Society’s Secretary-General Maha Al-Barjas handed over the gift in the presence of the President of the Red Cross, Antoine Al-Zoghbi, the Secretary-General of the Red Cross, George Katana, and with the participation of the Regional Director of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Dr.

In a statement to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Barjas praised the efforts of the Lebanese Red Cross, stressing that the donation falls within the framework of financing emergency projects for the Lebanese regions hosting Syrian refugees with the aim of confronting and combating the threat of the spread of the new Corona virus.

Al-Zoghbi thanked the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development for this donation, and said in a similar statement to KUNA, “Thanks are due to the Red Crescent and the Kuwaiti people who did not hesitate to provide aid to Lebanon and its people.”

Katana also expressed his thanks to the Emir and the people of Kuwait, saying, “Kuwait is the most generous provider of aid to the Lebanese Red Cross, from chronic medicines to ambulances and other equipment.”

He considered that the volume of this aid “confirms the confidence in the Red Cross and its performance, which is something we are proud of. These offerings prove that Kuwait always stands by the Lebanese people and extends a helping hand to them in all circumstances.”

For his part, Al-Sharqawi told KUNA that “this gift is essential and reliable in the work of the Red Cross teams to carry out the tasks required of them in saving people’s lives.”

He added, “We returned the Kuwait Red Crescent Society to carry out humanitarian works with a few words, and today we are witnessing a great humanitarian work that we are proud of on the part of Kuwait.”

The participants moved to the headquarters of the Lebanese Red Cross in Beirut, where the Kuwait Fund for Development, the Kuwait Red Crescent Society and the head of the Society’s mission in Lebanon Al-Anzi were honored by presenting shields for their achievements and humanitarian contributions in Lebanon.

Al-Enezi delivered a speech in which he praised the efforts of the Lebanese Red Cross teams that are active on all Lebanese territories, noting their constant readiness for humanitarian and relief intervention.

After that, the Kuwaiti Red Crescent delegation visited the Children’s Cancer Center in Lebanon and provided medicines to cancer patients. Al-Barjas said that “the center suffers from a severe shortage of the required medicines, and the Kuwait Red Crescent Society seeks to alleviate as much as possible the burdens borne by the center.”

The Kuwait Red Crescent Society had renovated the outpatient clinic building in the Children’s Cancer Center after it was damaged by the explosion of Beirut Port in August 2020, which was inaugurated by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer last June.
