Finally, after suffering and a long wait, the Supreme Committee for Corona Emergency in the Council of Ministers approved the request of the Minister of Education, Dr. Ali Al-Mudhaf, for the return of 2,217 non-Kuwaiti teachers who will return before the new school year, as they were unable to return to Kuwait after spending the summer vacation last school year 2019-2020 And the Spring Break midway through the current academic year 2020-2021.
Official sources confirmed that the Council of Ministers officially addressed the Ministry of Education, the day before yesterday (Sunday), to approve the return of breeders of different nationalities based on the education request, indicating that the ministry will work during the next few days to take the necessary measures for the return of the stranded according to the need for their specializations, and discuss A mechanism for renewing teachers’ residencies that ended while they were outside the country because they were unable to enter due to the Corona crisis and the airport closure.
The sources pointed out that the number of stranded persons of various nationalities (Egyptians, Tunisians, Jordanians, Palestinians) for the last academic year 2019/2020 reached 1112 teachers and administrators, and the number of those stranded in the middle of the current school year 2020/2021 is about 1,105 teachers and administrators, including 86 Saudis.
The sources stated that the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, Faisal Al-Maqsid, will hold a meeting with the concerned administrative and public education sectors to discuss the decision of the Supreme Committee for Corona Emergencies, and draw a road map and scenarios for their return, which is expected to coincide with the beginning of the new academic year 2021-2022, and then coordination will be made with The Ministry of Interior and Civil Aviation to take the necessary measures to ensure the return of the groups that will be identified.
The sources indicated that the vision is not yet clear about the stranded persons whose residency has expired, but it is possible that they will enter with government entry visas or find a mechanism to renew them electronically, and it has not been decided whether the children and wives of the stranded teachers will enter upon their return or not.
The sources revealed that the number of teachers stranded abroad and their residency in the country ended, due to the difficulty of their return due to the Coronavirus pandemic, reached more than 700 teachers in the fields of physics, chemistry, English, French, philosophy, geology, biology, mathematics, decoration, Musical education and physical education, as the ministry tends to dispense with 372 teachers from them, due to the presence of requests from Kuwaitis in their same specialties.
The Kuwaiti Society for Human Rights had asked the Ministry of Education last month to exclude teachers from the decision to prevent entry to the country, as was the case with other groups that were identified by the Council of Ministers.
The association indicated that a number of teachers stranded in Tunisia contacted it and reported the pain of 114 teachers.
The Tunisian embassy in the country also called on the Ministry of Education to intervene with the concerned authorities to consider excluding Tunisian teachers from the ban on returning to Kuwait and enabling them to resume their work.
For its part, the Jordanian Embassy called on the Ministry of Education to facilitate the return of its teachers to join their work centers, confirming that they obtained exit permits from the educational areas before they left the lands of Kuwait to spend the spring vacation in their country.
