India set a new world record for daily coronavirus infections today, Sunday, as the United States said it was racing against time to provide aid to New Delhi.

The number of infections in the last twenty-four hours reached 349691, continuing to break records for the fourth consecutive day. Hospitals in Delhi and across the country began to refuse to accept patients after they ran out of medical oxygen and the family ran out.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Twitter, “Our hearts go out to the Indian people amid this terrible outbreak of Covid-19. We are working closely with our Indian government partners and will urgently provide additional support to the people of India and the health care heroes there. ”

The United States was criticized in India for the controls it imposed on the export of raw materials needed to make vaccines through the Defense Production Act and the associated ban on exports in February.

This month, the Indian Serum Institute, the largest vaccine manufacturer in the world, urged US President Joe Biden to lift the ban that harms production of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The data of the Ministry of Health indicated that the total number of infections rose to 16.96 million cases and deaths to 192,311 cases after the death of 2767 patients.

During the last month alone, daily injuries increased by eight times and deaths increased ten-fold. Health experts say the death toll is likely much higher.

Reuters photographers said that people are placing mattresses and oxygen tubes outside hospitals, while they are begging the authorities to accept the entry of patients.

The “Indian Express” newspaper, citing an internal government assessment, said that the wave is expected to reach its climax in mid-May, with daily infections reaching half a million cases.
