The number of Covid-19 infections in India exceeded that recorded in Brazil, to become the second Asian country in terms of the number of cases in the world after the United States, according to an AFP tally.

India has recorded 4.20 million cases since the outbreak began, according to Health Ministry data, compared to 4.12 million cases announced in Brazil and 6.25 million in the United States.

India also recorded 71,641 deaths, which is fewer than 126,203 deaths in Brazil and 188,540 in the United States.

But many experts point out that India is not testing enough people while many deaths are not being properly recorded, which means that the actual numbers may be much higher than those declared.

Since August, the country of 1.3 billion people and some of the world’s most populated cities has recorded the highest daily increases in the number of infections in the world. On Monday, it announced an increase of more than 90,000 cases.
